The heating element isn’t great, as it is a 1600w thermal coil, but it does have a PID (unfortunately not adjustable), and an auto purge function. Around me, it often goes on sale and is extremely cheap, plus, it comes with a full compliment of accessories like a steaming jug, tamper, and full set of 1 and 2 short single and double walled baskets. I think the Breville Duo Temp Pro is weirdly underrated. For ~$100 or so more, the Bambino Plus is a good upgrade over the base Bambino. However, it does lose the hot water function of the base Bambino. Additionally, it has an auto milk steaming function and auto purge. First of all, it comes with a set of unpressurized portafilters in the box (at least in some markets). Finally, with a 3 second start up time, the Bambino is probably also the fastest way to get hot water.įor ~$100 or so over the base Bambino, the Bambino Plus gets a few additional features. The machine can also support an unpressurized portafilter if you decide to swap it out. Overall, its affordable price, low profile, and fast startup time puts it ahead of most of the affordable competition. Additionally, it has an (albeit unadjustable) PID system, something that most other cheap pressurized portafilter systems do not have. Breville’s advantage here is its Thermojet system, that allows for a really quick 3 second set up time. The base Bambino is a simple small profile low end machine, designed to compete against cheap pressurized portafilter machines. Considering that other dual boiler machines are typically significantly more expensive, the Breville Dual Boiler is probably the best machine in its class at its price point. It also has a large aftermarket community, with plenty of mods such as flow control. Depending on where you are, it is probably the cheapest dual boiler espresso machine you can get, and it includes features that you would like such as adjustable PID, pressure gauge and full sized 58mm portafilter. Probably Breville’s best machine, the Breville Dual Boiler is an affordable dual boiler machine that has probably every single feature an enthusiast might need. I personally think a good case could be made for buying every single machine in the S, A and B tiers, but I’d say skip everything below that. S tier: Dual Boiler, Bambino/Bambino Plus.I will not be taking reliability into account, as I have no used enough of them to establish a representative sample for each model. I thought I might as well go over every single machine in the Breville roster, sort them into a tier list, and talk about which ones you should buy and which ones should you skip. Some of their machines are great, while you should probably steer clear of some of their other machines. Breville/Sage probably sells more espresso machines than anyone else.
